The real MI5 HQ did appear in a James Bond film a few years ago.
Wasn't that MI6? It's definitely supposed to be MI6 that Bond works for, and it's MI6 that has a gaudy, newish building near the Thames.
(For those who don't know, MI5, or the Security Service, operates inside the UK, e.g. trying to catch spies from other countries and, nowadays, track down home-grown terrorist cells. MI6, or the Secret Intelligence Service, operates abroad, e.g. spying.
