In the North Wales slate quarries, the quarrymen created "rock cannon"

Fascinating stuff! Not having the High Topps and Slater Bob's mine easily to hand, we made do with the slate levels at Nant Gwernol, Braich Goch, Aberllefenni and Ratgoed. When we finally did get to Slater Bob's mine it seemed to be in use. There was also a gate and it was locked.

[The above post is not intended to encourage anybody to explore disused slate quarries. Exploring mines without an experienced guide is dangerous.]
