He would have had his wallet in his pocket - he was going to buy petrol.
I am sure that this would contain enough information as to his identity for the hospital to have contacted his family, which is why he was whisked off so soon after the end of the adventure and before the start of SW - the worried aunt.
His prototype was the son of the Editor of the Manchester Guardian and became Chairman of Lloyd's, so any hospital worth its salt would have put him in a private room!
