Another thing that I noticed in SD was an example of AR's use of foreshadowing- something that you don't notice on the first reading, but that makes the second- or the twenty-second reading more enjoyable.
During the climbing of Kanchenjunga, after Roger has fallen off the cliff, John says something about 'you could have broken your leg." Roger's reply: "And we don't have a stretcher with us."
