Yes, Pam, I agree, but let’s not forget that as well as being sensible, Susan was an emotional child and was not afraid to show it. There are examples in SD:

Susan wriggled a hand out from under her tent and into Titty’s which was close beside it. Titty found the hand and held it tight.

’They’re lost. They’re lost’ sobbed Susan . . . . .Susan made up her mind. ‘We must go and tell mother at once. We must go and tell her now.’ . . . . ‘Susan’s right,’ said Nancy

The only other one who shows her tears is Titty. When Nancy cries, she goes red-faced and turns away quickly. Susan owns up. That’s why I admire her.
