Happier!
Its just that in the UK spellings from American English (spoken by people from the USA) are dismissed as nothing more than ignorance, to be laughed at and avoided at all costs. A little research on their part would lead them to find that American English in some ways is the more correct or authentic. Why? American English is pretty much as it was taken to what is now the USA, it is the English who have allowed it to be altered. For more in depth explanation and an entertaining read seek out Bill Bryson's 'Mother Tongue'.
Also some quirks of American English are blamed on ignorance of the users when it is nothing to with them! A good example is the ise/ize ending. If you look in an older copy of Fowler's 'Modern English Usage' they argue that the ise ending is accepted in English English usage and the ize in American English, they then add that if users of English English want to be absolutely correct and faithful to the language they to should use the ize ending!
