Keillor's comments remind me of our first shower my dad put in. No-one could use another tap in the house while it was on and even then it fluctuated. It was another thirty odd years before mains pressure hot water became the norm here.
In the UK, found the 'power shower' an interesting concept along with carpet in the tiny bathrooms. Mind you, the houses generally seemed tiny anyway, with the semi-detached design (no windows in the sides of houses)used even with detached houses.
Very interesting place though, a very strong sense of identity came through that was somewhat unexpected.
