You must remember that no true Englishman would ever want to be in a shower. The instant transition from scalding hot to freezing cold is deliberately plumbed in to remind him how stupid he was to go near a shower in the first place!
I have not yet discovered a shower in which one can eat, drink, read the newspaper and (before I gave up pipe smoking) smoke.
I am sure that AR would have enjoyed a contemplative pipe in the bath.
