I have been reading the books to the students in my class. We read S&A
last May at the end of the school yr. That book has Bridgit's 2nd b'day
and Roger as 7. I always felt Titty was 8 to 8.5, Susan and Peggy around
10, and John and Nancy around 12. However, we have now read Secret
Water this fall. Bridgit is 5. It is very obvious that the other
children aged. But that would make John and Nancy close to 15 or 16 and
I don't "see" them that old in this book.

By the way, I am using these books in my classroom. We have been doing
a unit on sailing. We are having a grand time. We live in Texas and
have gone down and spent the night on the Elissa - an 1880's era sailing
boat. They have a course called "A Sailor's Life". My first graders
loved the experience. I also have a parent with a sailing boat and we
are all going sailing this next weekend. I would love to have any ideas
or hear from any teachers that might use this in their classes.
