a. Place not chosen
You were forced to post on Tarboard?
b. No idea it was a fib, so you are in error in your implication of intent.
I didn't say it was your fib, but someone else's.
c. I am unable to verify your statement.
Noted. I can assure you that there are detailed reports of Sans Pareil's performance at Rainhill.
d. How do you mean resurrect, did it go away?
It comes and goes.
The sabotaged boiler plate theory won't hold water (pun not intended). Boiler plates at the time were notoriously prone to failure, wherever they were made, due to inadequate casting technology.
In fact, the L & M Railway purchased Sans Pareil, but soon relegated it to goods duties. The loco had numerous design faults, the most glaring of which was that it was fired from the front, so it pushed its tender in front of it. The hapless fireman had to brave the wind, rain and slipstream. The hot air flue doubled back on itself to arrive under the chimney. It was a crazy set-up, and was never repeated.
BTW - it's 'George Stephenson', not 'George Stevenson'.
