Dear Prue:

The absolute beauty of being a snob is you can consider another snob beyond the pale and yet still say hello. It is a pleasant characteristic that is often mistaken for the more extreme forms of human behaviour. My wife loves brewed coffee, whilst I think it is some form of poison sent to destroy ones karma. Most people dislike lapsong souchong, whereas I inherited the taste from my grandfather.

It is perfectly alright to call anyone British born a POM. In Perth after WW2 and Singapore being a POM was not a good thing and you were basically unemployable. The Perth people felt their butt had been hung out to dry by the British in Singapore. I have a lot of POMMIES in the family, one or two of them you might even talk to on a lonely wet dreary Friday if you could not find solace in Winnie the pooh books.
