That is the suggestion given to me when I was told about AR's objection to the pre 1973 BBC Film of SA.

I was told that the BBC used Huyton Hill (as it now is) as Beckfoot and that the basis of AR's stated objection was on the grounds of the child actors wearing lifejackets, when his children in the books did not. I have never been convinced by the argument for the objection as it does seem a bit weak.

I never found out if the BBC conceded or not, or whether there were too many vested interests to let a little thing like the author of the book that they were filming, get in the way.

Was there more to it than meets the eye? I don't know, but other events would seem to suggest that AR may have had good reason for not having Huyton Hill identified as Beckfoot in a major film.
