You are quite right Laurence, this is why I linked it with further guesses as to where they originated / went to school.
I would guess that they came via London, as we know from WH that they lived in the south. Possibly near a large RN establishment - Plymouth, Portsmouth or Chatham?
Perhaps we ought to have a poll as to where we think they might have lived or went to school. Possibly the one thing we do know if that John did not go to Rugby. As Jim Brading went there (as well as AR), I cannot imagine one Rugbeian failing to acknowledge another outside school.
