For some reason, just as Ransome appeals to some Japanese, so does Anne of Green Gables. I have read that it is one of the books taught in Japanese schools, but I don't recall loving any of my schoolbooks very much. One of the prime Canadian tourist destinations for Japanese tourists, rivalling Niagara Falls, is Prince Edward Island, our smallest province but home of the very popular Anne Shirley.
