I’ve just heard Kirstie Taylor talking about her favourite book on BBC Radio Scotland’s COVER STORIES (broadcast Friday 16 June at 11.30 and available on listen again – go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.shtml?http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/index.shtml?button
I’m Kirstie Taylor and I work in the Old Children’s Bookshelf in Canongate. My favourite book is WINTER HOLIDAY. I first came to it aged about eight. It’s a brilliant book. It’s wonderfully written and you start with two visitors, Dick and Dorothea, seeing the people and the landscape from the outside. And it’s an exciting story – clifftop rescues, and the group dynamics between the children is beautifully portrayed – you only realise that as an adult, not as a child. Probably means so much to me because it’s my mother’s book, it’s the first one I read in the series and it just takes you there.
