If as Colin suggests, John and Susan were still at a Prepatory school rather than junior pupils at a Public or Grammar school, wouldn't Roger then be at the same school as John (likewise Susan & Titty)? But we know from PP that Titty & Roger were at different schools from John and Susan. Or school, John & Susan were at different schools, though Titty & Roger
may have been at the same school.

In SD John sees in the boatbuilders a boy who was scarcely older thasn he was, ie had left school at 14 as the Death and Glories probably did. What were the ordinary English primary or village schools called then, and did they take pupils up to the leaving age of 14? Or rather until they left when they turned 14. So the pupils would be at the same school from 5 or 6 (?) until they turned 14.
