Then I think we are agreed. Kangchenjunga is pronbably the best alternative and the one that someone writing now should use.
However, back in 1930, things were a lot less obvious and Ransome was probably using the most commonly seen alternative. I doubt he did any deep research into the origins of the name, if he had been writing a little later he might have used Everest, Annapurna or some other mountain.
