Flaw in the story?

I see that amazon.com (interesting coincidence) are offering several
titles, some with reader's reviews. For WDMTGTS a rather strongly
opinionated review includes some praise plus the following (I quote) :
"The story's only flaw - and it's a serious one - is the deus ex machina
springing of Commander Walker, their father, out of practically nowhere
to take them home again"
Personally I think this episode in the story is possible, although not
very likely, but neatly ties up the concern expressed throughout the
book of the need for the whole family to be at Pin Mill for the express
purpose of meeting Commander Walker on his return.
I have never considered the fortunate meeting as a "serious flaw". Does
anybody else agree with the reviewer's comment?
