Hi,

I'm a great fan of the Swallows and Amazon books, and have been reading them since I was very young. This summer I'm off to the Lake District for the first time (excluding a school geography fieldtrip) and would like to see points of Swallows and Amazons interest.

I've seen on the internet about the Coniston Water Boat Tours that do a Swallows and Amazon tour and I'll probably do that. Is it good? Do you actually get to go ashore on Wild Cat Island etc?

I've also seen at some other webpages about The Dogs Home (http://homepage1.nifty.com/hobbit/english/ransome/walk/coniston.html) but it does not say exactly how to get there! Apparantly it is a bit South of Brantwood, but I'm not sure exactly where. Does anyone have any directions to it that they could give me?

I also read about the North Pole Was Here plaque on that site, but that should be easier to find.

Are there any other things you suggest I try to see? Or any particular walks that will take in a lot of S&A stuff? I've tried searching on the internet but haven't come up with a huge amount.

Cheers,

Robin
