Must have been very loosely based as Brownsea is low lying, wooded (one of the few remaining haunts of red squirrels) and landlocked in Poole Harbour, whereas Kirrin was rocky and out in the mouth of a bay. I always thought it more like St Michael's Mount without the causeway and the name sounds vaguely Cornish to me as well.
