I always knew the Lakes and Broads stories were based on real places, but it was only years later, when I was studying a road atlas of the area around Ipswich, that I realised the Secret Water location was real too. A couple of years ago I was in a plane that flew over that exact area and it was fantastic to see it from such a height.
