Good picture Ian brings back memories, both Joe and you are right on.
The mowers like that came in various sizes, and if I remember correctly even motorized ones.
Nothing like the smell of new mown grass on a summers day.
But not much fun to do it.
A good English lawn is something special though.
You could certainly write a message with one of those mowers.
I have seen the roller type advertised in the States without the catcher maybe they also throw the cuttings to the rear rather than to the front like English ones.
