I appreciate the explanation of the RN usage. In the case I was referring to (loading Goblin prior to return), AR seems to use "Captain Walker", "Commander Walker", and "Daddy" indiscriminately, including using "Captain Walker" in instances where his immediate role ("Captain Walker and the Mastodon were . . .") was not that of CO. Sort of makes me wonder if Commander Walker was getting a promotion along with his change of station (would certainly account for the respect accorded him by the Customs Officers in WDMTGTS, as well as the summons to the Admiralty for meetings). Query - what rank would be implied by being provided a Sub-Lieutenant as a driver (opener of SW)?
