Hi Ed! Great query. I may have the answer. Do we know what sort of cake it was? If it was an example of the sort of 'Dundee' cake I was offered as a child by my grandmother, then believe me you could stuff it under a Sherman tank and it would come out intact. A slice made a hard clattering noise when it hit the plate (not that Nancy had plates) . . A knapsack would have no chance. Now I am open to argument, so I hope we have a really good long thread on this. (Isn't it nice to be discussing cakes!!)
