Lyn -

I say, even the definition of "cake" got lost in the translation.

The soft fluffy American concept did not seem to be the thing to STUFF into a knapsack without totally making a mess of the whole thing.

But then, I think a BISCUIT is that you can pull apart in its middle, and use the two layers to sop up molasses. The fun here is trying to make the biscuits come out even with the molasses. One is forever running out of one, so need to get more of the other, then continue sopping.

I wonder if "sopping" is understood. Sort of like WIPING up a puddle of molasses on a plate, and biting off the wet part of the biscuit soaked in molasses.

By the way, when first getting ready for this process, one must first ask: "Please pass the lasses..." Now once you have had some, but need some more, then you can ask: "Please pass molasses..." It would never do to ask that the first time around, because someone would object, "How can you have some MO-lasses when you haven't had ANY lasses yet?"

Oh well, what else would one expect from a bunch of colonials...

Especially one living in KENTUCKY, where one says, "I am tarred." Which means, I am in need of rest, as I am fatigued. Elsewhere, one might say, "I'm tired." This is ENGLISH as she is spoke. Here, anyway...
