Gosh Ed, you mean that people actually eat molasses? I've only ever used it to remove rust from iron and steel parts. It's very good for that.
My brother used to take schoolchildren from the city on horseriding camps in the high country. He would bake a couple of 'saddlebag cakes' for rations during the week-long camp. These could withstand being tossed around in a saddlebag without coming to any harm.
1 cup wholemeal self-raising flour
1 cup sultanas
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Mix and bake for 1/2 hour.
David.
