The article also mentions squirrel casserole. For those who haven't tasted it - don't. It is the worst tasting flesh I have ever tried. I was very tough and very acrid. After three mouthfuls, I had to leave the camping table and return it to the earth. I was not the only one.
Maybe like some game birds it should have been hung until it was crawling with maggots.
Even the cat, I used to have, that would catch squirrels - but unlike anything else it caught, it would not eat them.
Doubtless amongst our vast array of Tarboarders someone has a reliable recipe for cooking squirrel.
They were eaten in the UK during the Second World War.
