Whilst this thread may seem to have nothing to do with AR - I think it relates to the context behind his S, A & D's writings. Unsurprisingly, I also feel the topic needs to be nailed if Tarboard is to continue constructively. So I find Pru's perceptions totally valid. In post 23763 Pru sees 'trashing' other ideas and opinions as inappropriate. But PeterH in 23770 asks 'What is wrong with that?' Pru's response in 23771 explains the difference between disagreeing and 'trashing' and goes on to say there is no need to denigrate others and winning or losing doesn't come into it. In my opinion she is wholly right.

Analysing what happens, it amounts to the difference between an 'active' and a 'passive' response to an opinion which one doesn't share. An active reponse is aggressive and unkind. A passive response says - 'Yes, but -' We are all entitled to our private views. As Prue said 'winning or losing doesn't come into it'.

Having suffered from this stuff - and been prompted to respond - I have pleaded repeatedly for an accepting attitude, not an internet rough-house. We don't need it.

Thank you, Pru, for offering sanity and courtesy instead of win/lose. AR would applaud you, I'm sure.

Joe
