I had forgotten the attraction of a narrow-gauge railway. I don't know why it appeals, but it does - something to do with the clacking of the wheels and the closeness of the trees and walls as you go past. Titty and Roger would have loved it.

Mmmm, I know just what you mean. I love the tiny overbridges which remind me of the Festiniog Railway. I have just finished taking a party of British railway enthusiasts around the 'forgotten railway attractions' of Poland. We did 1,400 km by rail in a week. Plenty of narrow gauge travel. The 'closeness of the trees' on some sections was such that the engines had to be hosed down after traversing them to prevent them from catching fire.
