Or why not Kendal? Little over an hour by road from Manchester, or train via Oxenholme Station(Strickland Junction in PP). In the Museum of Lakeland Life is the reconstruction of AR`s study with many of his own possessions --- desk, books, pipes, passport etc. Well worth a visit.
