I wonder how much of our feeling that 'these kids today- (fill in the blank)' comes from expecting them to be us. The reality is that things are different- technology plays a huge role in how modern kids experience things.

There's also the example of the parents- these kids are being taught to be consumers. As a college advisor, I am constantly dealing with the 'helicopter parents' constantly hovering over their kids. (and these 'kids' are legal adults!) Perhaps we need the Walker/Blackett/Callum parental training school!

One of my favorite examples of good parenting in the series was in the letter from Mrs. Callum in one of the books. She was spring-cleaning, but would not touch 'Dick's Museum.'
