Admiralty House, Sydney - Residence Admiral commanding Australia Station 1885-1913

I only mentioned the eminent Royal personage for background, and I also doubt at age 12 Mary would have been considered old enough to attend functions frequented by naval officers.
But my assumption is they were 18 and 26 in 1910. And Ted was then either a full Lieutenant or expecting imminent promotion, as the stony-earted Lords of the Admirality would have probably viewed a middy or a sub getting married with disfavour.

I'm not sure there was a Royal Naval attache per se in Australia at the time. The Commander in Chief of the Australia Station, (a full Admiral) would have considered such creature a nuisance.
Now the CinC may have had a junior officer seconded to him for shore duties, but I don't see their Lordships troubling to ship a Midshipman of Sub specially out from England, when the half dozen cruisers based at Sydney could have provided suitable candidates.

Those cruisers spent most of their time anchored in Sydney Harbour, so whether Ted was on one of them, or seconded to Admiralty House, there would have been ample opportunity to meet a young Australian gel socially
