You can buy a multiregion DVD in the US (eg on the Internet from Sam's Club etc) for < $100
I bought 3 for family use - still running fine after a year or more
Getting the right sound-track involves fiddling with the white plug in the back.
This makes 'conversion' etc obsolete, one can go ahead and order freely from amazon.co.uk (and some Japanese DVD's)
Looks like the regional DVD censors have shot themselves in the foot.
