The UK was always more class conscious Pam. A boarding school was one means of keeping children away from the supposedly malign influence of the lower classes.
The whole public (meaning private) school system was seen a good preparation for running the Empire or a commercial enterprise. At least one learned to look after oneself. I learned how to shoot, fence, box and unarmed combat.
As an only child, I found boarding school a great benefit.

There has been speculation before as to where the Amazons went to school. There does not seem to be enough evidence to make a reasonable guess. I personally favour a school somewhere in the midlands, perhaps like Abbots Bromley.
