Some years ago, while on holiday in the UK I took a trip on a Windermere steamer. About a mile or so South of Rio Bay (Bowness Bay) on the Eastern shore about where one would expect to find Houseboat Bay I was surprised and delighted to spot a structure on a small promontory which very much reminded me of the North Pole. The corresponding notes in the steamer company's complimentary booklet state:

"... mansion was built in 1790 by Sir John Legard, who in 1804
added one of the lake's most charming curiosities: the so-called
Storrs Temple juts out into the lake on a substantial stone jetty.
Surmounted by a flagpole this octagonal summerhouse commands views
from its windows in all directions and is dedicated to four heros
of the Napoleonic War ..."

The position on the lake may not be correct and the stone jetty is not quite right but the flagpole, octagonal shape, windows and general appearance are all very suggestive!

Any comments please?

It would be very nice if some local TAR could get a photo of this and other North Poles, scan them and make them available to us all - especially those of us non UK TARS who are geographically challenged.
