I think the 'style' problem is solvable. Just as great artists had their 'schools', so I think that a modern author, given enough study (and perhaps high tech assistance) could copy the style. But it would be all to easy to create a pastiche. I think this danger has already been pointed out by Peter H.

The great thing about the SA canon is that they do different things in each of the books. When you read the books for the first time AR never ceases to suprise.
