I haven't had an opportunity to do so, but I want to go back to Sir Gibbie by George MacDonald because I think I recall a similar rescue of a very young girl who will eventually become the protagonist's wife. In Sir Gibbie (and in another MacDonald, but I don't recall which one), the flash flood actually pours over the roof of a cottage on a hillside. So the setting is not the same, but the idea of rescue from the flooding water seemed similar.

Anyone else know the MacDonald books and have comments on similarities and differences from AR's unfinished story?
