I understand from an art historian friend that up to 20% of museum and gallery 'Old Masters' may be fakes. Of course there is no way it would be owned up to - the 'experts' having to admit they made a mistake and cost their companies millions? Aint gonna happen...
Just enough get picked out by the informed public for the whole business not to go away the way the owners would prefer.
