In SA, all of the Swallows and Amazons planned to live on Wildcat Island, even John and Roger coming back there when they were on leave. I don't remember which section, but it's referenced again the morning after the storm when Titty (I think) says something like "we'll always come back" and Mrs. Dixon says "We all think that when we're young".
A further note - there is a precedent of sorts for Dick and Dot staying together in later life - Captain Flint had a room in Beckfoot as his pied-a-terre, presumably extending even further back than his purchase of the houseboat (a year or so before SA).
