Coot Club was set in the Easter holiday, presumably March and/or April, therefore Spring in the Northern Hemisphere. If I recall rightly Hugh Brogan makes a similar point about AR not being "afraid of the rainy day" in his biography, quoting an example from CC.

I'm not sure about autumn novels, although Secret Water was set at the very end of the summer holidays, potentially early September, depending how school holidays were timed in the 1930's. Would anyone know more about that?
