The confusion about where they were when weighing the dog and getting his fortune is because in the book, that was done in Potter; in the movie (VHS or DVD) that was done in Beccles. This is just another one of those things that were changed in the movie edition of these stories.

I enjoy the movie version primarily because it shows the countryside in which these stories take place since I cannot get to see those locations myself in person, but the story line is messed with, resulting in the confusion we have just noted regarding where was that dog given his fortune.

The story changes can be very irritating. In SA, the movie, there is no storm at the end. The missing treasure box is dug up and brought to the houseboat to the surprise of Captain Flint, whereas in the book, he went to Cormorant Island and dug out that box himself. It does make one wonder why these beautiful stories were so messed up when making the movie version.
