No, I didn't mean that AR copied EN, or as I suggested earlier, that EN copied AR. (The Psammead was involved!) As you suggested, someone needs to take on the 'parental' role or we would have books filled with hungry whiny children, who become ill from using the drinking water as a toilet. No fun in reading those books.
I agree- the parental role is a tough role for a boy to fill. It's not that boys can't be caring and competent, but that they traditionally aren't rewarded for doing so.
