I shall continue to regard arguments suggesting that Nancy and Peggy were anything over than upper-middle (or more probably, lower-upper) class as being simply perverse.

Andy - this statement reveals you as an unreconstructed old Tarboarder like me - we both date back from the old days when we could all be grown-up enough to use robust language like 'perverse argument'. I am very glad you did so. I don't agree, of course, and I shall continue to pour scorn on all arguments that the Amazons were toffs. I feel that you are shoving N and P into some sort of sociological matrix into which they don't really quite fit. But then I have always thought that sociology was mostly b******ks anyway.

Further, I don't see how AR's work is in anyway diminished by recognising this.

I totally agree. Our argument is just a piffling one, having no effect on AR's genius. Nevertheless, the argument is worth having, and I am delighted to 'bicker' with you, Beardbiter. Thank you for responding.
