I did actually,8-(^), mention toothpowder rather than toothpaste. I did have in mind the round tins of Gibbs and Eucryl. To my mind they both had a horrible taste.
Out of period, there was a clorophyll version in the 1950's which was unsuprisingly green rather than the pink of the original. Again it left a foul taste in the mouth.
