"Peter, with respect to spelling "Owdon" as "Owden" it's possible that since "Owen" is a relatively common name the spelling sort of slips over. From a linguistic point of view the words are pretty close."

I must admit that the thought had not occurred to me. My initial reaction, on seeing PeterH's post, was that Owden was a follow on from Ogden with which we are all familiar from the poet, via the tobacco manufacturer to Coronation Street.

Of course it could be that I post too much on TarBoard !
