That is what has happened to "Big Brutus" near Pittsburg, Kansas -- you can go up into the main body, but not climb up the boom to the top anymore which is about 150 feet high and has a stairway with handrails, etc.. Insurance requirements is what the sign says.

"Big Brutus" is the second largest electric shovel in the world and was in operation from about the early '60's to the early '70's in the strip mining of southeast Kansas. It is now a tourist attraction.

Google "Big Brutus" to find out more--- I think Dick and Roger would have really liked "Big Brutus"!
