In CC Tom sees George Owdon leaning on the ferry-raft rail (agreed we should all call him GO, to avoid spelling mistakes?) when he is on his way to the Margoletta and thinks him as a “larger boy” (than Tom), and also that if he “had been any other kind of larger boy” Tom might have asked him for advice. But not one that sells birds’ eggs (Chapter 4, Cape page 52).

In BS, Tom thinks initially that the D&G’s have cast off the cruiser outside Jonnat’s “What on earth made you do it?” And Joe says “We was thinking it must have been you” (Chapter 2, Cape page 34). But everyone else blames the Coot Club because Tom cast off the Margoletta in CC.
