Squashy's Hat.

When SH was saved from burning in the Gulch, he was wearing his hat. This was shown in the picture of them sheltering in the mine.
However by the time he arrived to join Roger, Titty and the D's firefighting he was hatless.
Did he lose his hat whilst running with John, Nancy etc? Did it get burnt? Or has he stuffed it into a pocket?
Has anyone any ideas please?
