I've been lurking for a couple of years & made a couple of tentative posts, neither of which received a reply.

This subject caught my attention as I was trying to catch up on what appears to be a much higher than usual rate of postings over the past several weeks, so I'll post this reply.

I read & (plan to) post to address three areas of interest to me, regarding Ransome:

1) The physical locations of the books. I've managed to realise a life's dream & tour the Lake District, as well as the Broads -- even made it to Secret Water in July. It took me most of 40 years, but I did it, and I'm not done yet. The recent photos & thread regarding the cave is of much interest.

2) A better understanding of those things English mentioned in the books, some of which is archaic, or nearly so.

3) A better understanding of things British in general. I've had the opportunity to travel through much of England & a bit of Scotland (at my employer's expense) & have burnt frequent flyer mileage bringing my wife to England for a holiday a couple of years ago -- all thoroughly enjoyed, but not completely understood. I'm Canadian, so share some spelling & grammar bits, but am still interested in learning about much that seems to put others off -- plumbing, milk cans, you-name-it.

It's all good.
