In fact Beckfoot seems to have had no water supply on the first floor anyway (as in PM) and used jugs in the rooms.
Some time ago Ed raised the statement where in PM Nancy said (it was part of a longer utterance which was economical on verbs) something like "... water bathroom ...". I took this to be ambiguous, meaning either put a jug of water in the bathroom, or take the water from the bathroom (for the flowers). Others maintained that there was no ambiguity and that the statement could only have the latter meaning.
